Carina Schalhofer works as a business lawyer at KINAST. She is part of the team Cologne 1 and supports her colleagues in advising clients on data protection law – in particular in the insurance sector and the mobility sector.

Education & Career

During her studies, Carina acquired in-depth knowledge in the field of data protection law, which she draws on when answering data protection law questions and advising clients.

During her LL.B. studies in European law at Maastricht University, she took courses in data protection law and wrote her bachelor thesis on the GDPR’s one-stop-shop mechanism. She gained practical experience through internships at KINAST and another law firm specializing in data protection law. She then completed her studies with an LL.M. degree from Tilburg University with a focus on law and technology. Here she deepend her data protection knowledge and was awarded the Westin Scholar Award by the International Association of Privacy Professionals for her achievements.
In her master’s thesis, she examined the new EU Data Act and its interaction with the GDPR. Thanks to her German-French A-levels and her law studies being conducted in English, she advises clients confidently in German, English and French.

Born in Cologne, Carina grew up in Aachen. She lived in Scotland for a year and has a soft spot for the Highlands, shortbread and ceilidh dancing. Carina enjoys sports and is often out and about on inline skates in the summer.
